ABOUT ME

Background

• I have been using ICT tools in my teaching since 2003.

• I with my colleagues used MS Office Powerpoint to prepare Study material for Maths and science.

• I prepared study material in pdf format also and uploaded it on my website https://kcjoshi1965.wixsite.com/mysite to share with students and teachers.

• Teachers from my district showed their interest to prepare presentations and provided their presentations to upload on the website.

• I prepared a Quiz of all maths chapters in PPT format for chapter-wise evaluation.

Though we were using MS Powerpoint yet we did not find it the best because of these concerns:

• It took us a lot of time to prepare a single lesson.

• Our students were merely spectators, they had nothing to learn themselves.

• Students were able to learn only what their teachers taught them.

• Everyone who was intended to use this tool had to pay a handsome price if he was honest.

• My colleague teachers found it difficult to learn all the functions of MS Powerpoint and creating animation was a tough job.                                                                                                                                                                                               A New Tool- Geogebra:

• In the year 2013, I got an opportunity to attend National ICT award jury meeting where we were told about and trained in using Geogebra.

• I found it more useful than PPT for my purpose because -  

1. It seemed to be an easy tool to integrate with the teaching-learning process.

2. It was very easy to create animation in Geogebra.

3. It seemed to me that Students can learn themselves with Geogebra.

4. It costs nothing.                                                                                                                                                                          Moving Towards FOSS:

• I am lucky enough to attend the National ICT Award Jury meeting 2015 also and came to know about FOSS operating system.

• I introduced him to Geogebra and searched Geogebra for Linux operating system.

• It was a pleasant surprise for us because now we can bring the software cost to ZERO without any adjustment to our requirement.

• I changed the Operating System of my school lab because they were running pirated software.

• When I was promoted to high school principal I came in touch with the head of institutions, I explained then about FOSS.
